Heart of gold is proud to be showcasing Do Something, Inc!
The turn key solution for young people interested in changing their world! The One Big Idea
Use the power of the internet to help young people change the world.
What They Do
You have a lot of ideas about how you'd like to change the world or at least you have a lot of questions and concerns and you're looking for specific things you can do. We're giving you a place to connect, a place to be inspired, be supported, be celebrated.
The only question is, "What's your something?"
Their Mission
Do Something believes young people have the power to make a difference. It is their aim to inspire, support and celebrate a generation of do-ers: people who see the need to do something, believe in their ability to get it done, and then take action.
Their website is a community where young people learn, listen, speak, vote, volunteer, ask, and take action to make the world a better place. Currently, only 23% of this generation actively volunteers. Our hope is to create a do something generation: a world where more than 51% of young people are involved with community action.
Take Action:
Do Something provides "challenges" in 3 areas: community building, health, and the environment. Challenges can be after-school activities or in-school class projects, undertaken in groups or alone, and they never require any money to execute. Over 4 million kids have tackled these challenges.
Speak Out:
Check out their message "Boards" on their site - speak up and be heard - swap ideas with other youth in or around your community about what matters to you!
Just as Rolling Stone helped create icons of rock-n-roll, BUILD Magazine is giving a face to community service. It is the only public service magazine written by youth that's distributed nationally. Want to see your name in print? Submit an article today!!! Not really into writing articles but have something to say? Want to get more involved within your community? Click here to learn how!!!
Innovate:
Young people rock. They should have role models that rock, too. Through the Do Something BRICK Awards and the GameStop Youth Grants program, Do Something celebrates young people who have dared to dream up and pursue their own community change ideas. Do Something has distributed over 1 million dollars to these amazing young people. In 1998, CNN dubbed the BRICK Awards "the Oscars for young people in service" and in 2005 President Bill Clinton attended the BRICK Awards Gala.
